Booking your first professional skin appointment can feel like a big step, especially if you’re not sure what to expect or what your skin actually needs. That’s exactly why we created the Skin Discovery Treatment. It’s a relaxed, 40-minute introduction to your skin, and for new clients it’s just $99 (usually $180).
Here’s what happens on the day, how to prepare, and where you can go from there.
A few things worth knowing about your skin
Before we get into the treatment, a little background helps explain why a proper assessment is so useful.
- Your skin is your body’s largest organ. It’s working hard all day, every day, to protect you.
- It renews itself regularly. The surface of your skin turns over roughly every 4 to 6 weeks, which is why consistent care tends to show up gradually rather than overnight.
- It changes as you do. Your skin’s needs shift with age, so the routine that suited you a few years ago may not be the best fit now.
Because every skin is different, guessing at products and treatments can be hit and miss. A professional assessment gives you a clear starting point.
What’s included in a Skin Discovery Treatment
The Skin Discovery Treatment is designed as the ideal first step. In 40 minutes it includes:
- A consultation about your skin, your goals and your current routine.
- An in-depth skin assessment so your therapist can see what’s going on below the surface, not just what you notice in the mirror.
- A Dermal Face Lift Mask, the same Dermal Face Lift Peptide Sheet Mask you can buy to use at home.
- One targeted modality chosen by your therapist to suit your skin on the day.
- Finishing products to complete your treatment.
- A homecare plan so you know exactly what to use between appointments.
The Skin Discovery Treatment is one of our new client offers. You can choose one new client offer for your first visit, and you’ll find the others on our offers page.
What happens on the day
Your appointment starts with a conversation. Your therapist will ask about your skin concerns, what you’d like to change, the products you use now and any medications you’re taking. There are no wrong answers, and it’s fine if you’re not sure how to describe your skin. That’s what the assessment is for.
Next comes the skin assessment. Your therapist looks closely at your skin and explains what they’re seeing in plain language, so you leave with a better understanding of your skin’s story.
Then it’s time to relax. Your therapist applies the Dermal Face Lift Mask and performs one targeted modality chosen for your skin, before finishing with products suited to you. To wrap up, you’ll talk through your homecare plan, including which Australian Skin Institute products could help, such as the Rejuvenating Foaming Cleanser or the Barrier Hydration Complex.
How to prepare for your appointment
There’s very little you need to do, but a few small steps help your therapist tailor the treatment safely:
- Tell us about any medications. This matters most if you take isotretinoin or other photosensitising medication, as some modalities, including LED, aren’t suitable.
- Mention retinoids and acids. If you use retinol, retinoids or exfoliating acids at home, let your therapist know.
- Let us know if you’re pregnant, so we can make sure your treatment is suitable.
- Jot down your current products. A quick list or a few photos of your skincare makes the consultation easier.
- Plan your day afterwards. Depending on your treatment, aftercare may include no makeup for 12 hours, avoiding heat, the gym and the sauna for 24 to 48 hours, and pausing retinol and acids for 3 to 5 days. SPF 50+ every day is a must.
If you have any questions about suitability before you book, you’re always welcome to call your nearest clinic.
Prefer to talk first? Book a free consultation
If you’d rather chat before committing to a treatment, book a free 20-minute Advanced Skin Consultation. It’s a chance to ask questions, talk about your goals and get a recommendation on where to start.
If your skin needs something more personalised, your therapist may also mention our partner Tugun Compounding Pharmacy, which compounds personalised skincare and nutritional supplements scripted by its pharmacists. You can request an order form and a pharmacist will be in touch.
What comes next
After your Skin Discovery Treatment, your therapist will suggest a path that suits your skin and goals. Often that means one of our two core treatments:
- The Radiance Skin Treatment ($180, 40 minutes): restorative and hydrating, using one modality such as LED, microcurrent, a peel or a Hydro Jelly mask.
- The Renewal Skin Treatment ($275, 60 minutes): results-focused, combining one personalised modality with one advanced modality such as nano infusion or skin needling.
If you’d like to keep going, a Skin Club is the best ongoing value. The Radiance Club is $135 a month for a monthly Radiance Skin Treatment (regular value $180), and the Renewal Club is $220 a month for a monthly Renewal Skin Treatment (regular value $275). Members also get 20% to 25% off Australian Skin Institute and Tugun Compounding Pharmacy retail, a Welcome Pack and a one-time Bring-a-Friend voucher, with a 6-month minimum term. Prefer to pay once? A Radiance Package ($460 for three treatments) or a Skin Program may suit you better. Compare every option on our memberships page.
