Brow lamination: what it is and how to look after it

If your brows have a mind of their own, brow lamination could be the answer. It sets your brow hairs into a smooth, brushed-up shape so they look fuller and more groomed, without brow gel every morning.

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination is a treatment that reshapes your natural brow hairs and sets them in place. Your brow artist brushes the hairs into the shape that suits your face, so they sit neatly and evenly. The result is a fuller, fluffier, more defined brow that still looks like your own.

There are no needles and no tattooing involved. It works purely with the hairs you already have, and results last around 4 to 6 weeks.

Who does brow lamination suit?

Brow lamination is a great option if your brows:

• are unruly, coarse or curly and won’t stay in place
• grow downwards or in different directions
• have small gaps that could be covered by brushing hairs across
• look thin even though you have a reasonable number of hairs

It’s also lovely if you’re growing your brows out and want them to look tidy along the way, or if you love the fluffy, brushed-up brow look but are tired of gels and pencils that need reapplying through the day.

What happens during your appointment

Your brow artist will start by chatting about the look you’d like and checking your natural brows. From there, they’ll set your brow hairs into a shape that suits your face, so they sit smoothly in an upward, brushed-out direction.

If you’re adding a tint or Brow Mapping, your artist will include these in the same appointment. You’ll leave with fuller, groomed brows and simple instructions for keeping them that way.

How to prepare

• Stop retinol and acids around your brows a week before your appointment.
• Mention any skin sensitivity, skin conditions or medications to your brow artist before you start, so they can check the treatment is right for you.
• Hold off on tweezing. The more hair you have to work with, the better your result.

Aftercare: making your results last

Good aftercare helps your brows stay in shape for longer:

• Keep your brows dry for 24 hours. That means no washing them, no sweaty workouts and avoiding steam and saunas.
• Brush your brows daily with a clean spoolie to keep the hairs sitting in their new direction.
• Be gentle when cleansing and applying skincare around the brow area.
• Ask your brow artist when to restart retinol or acids around your brows.

Pair it with a Brow Tint
