Every birthday brings something new, and your skin is no exception. Lines tell the story of a life full of laughing, squinting into the Queensland sun and everything in between. Ageing well isn’t about fighting the clock. It’s about giving your skin what it needs at each stage so it looks and feels healthy, comfortable and bright.
Here’s our decade-by-decade guide. Use it as a starting point, because your skin type, lifestyle and history matter just as much as your age.
The foundations at every age
Before we get into each decade, a few basics apply to everyone:
- Daily SPF 50+. Sun exposure is a major contributor to pigmentation, fine lines and loss of firmness. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ every morning, including your neck, chest and the backs of your hands.
- Gentle cleansing. Our Rejuvenating Foaming Cleanser ($69) is oil-free. Keep it away from your eyes, as the label advises.
- Hydration. Well-hydrated skin looks smoother and plumper and feels more comfortable.
- Consistency. A simple routine you follow every day beats an elaborate one you skip.
- Healthy habits. Good sleep, a balanced diet, drinking enough water and not smoking all show up in your skin over time.
Pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding? Vitamin A products aren’t recommended, so check with your doctor before using any active skincare.
Your 30s: build good habits
For many people, the 30s are when the first fine lines and a little dullness appear. Cell turnover starts to slow, so skin can look less bright than it used to. This is a great decade to set up the routine you’ll build on for years.
- Vitamin C in the morning. Our Vitamin C Serum ($99) slots in after cleansing and before moisturiser and SPF.
- Vitamin B3. Vitamin B3 Complex ($89) is a gentle, versatile step for most skin types.
- Introduce vitamin A slowly. Our Vitamin A Corrector ($99) is an evening product. Start a few nights a week and build up as your skin adjusts.
In clinic, a regular Radiance Skin Treatment ($180) keeps skin hydrated and glowing. Your therapist chooses one modality to suit you, such as LED, Micro (microdermabrasion), a peel or a Hydro Jelly mask. If you’ve never had a professional skin treatment, start with a Skin Discovery Treatment, which is $99 for new clients.
Your 40s: support firmness and texture
In your 40s you may notice lines that stay put, a little less bounce and more visible pigmentation from earlier sun exposure. Skin may also feel drier. This is when targeted ingredients and results-focused treatments really earn their place.
- Add peptides. Our Multi Peptide Serum ($139) sits in step two of your routine, with your other serums.
- Keep up vitamins A, C and B3. They work well together as part of a consistent routine.
- Boost hydration. Layer Pure Hydration Concentrate Serum ($99) under your moisturiser.
This is often when clients move to the Renewal Skin Treatment ($275, 60 minutes). It combines one personalised modality with one advanced modality, such as skin needling or nano infusion. For skin concerned with ageing, your therapist may choose our professional Anti-Ageing Peptide Serum to use during treatment.
Skin needling creates controlled micro-channels that stimulate the skin’s natural repair and collagen production. It’s best for fine lines, texture, pigmentation and acne scarring, and a course gives the best results. Expect some redness for a day or two. Read our comparison of skin needling vs dermal rollers to see why professional needling is different.
The Mature Skin Peel (10% glycolic and 10% lactic acid) is another lovely option for brightness and smoother texture. Learn more in professional peels explained.
If pigmentation is your biggest concern, our guide to pigmentation and melasma treatments explains the options, including when a consultation is the best first step.
Your 50s: hydration and comfort come first
Hormonal changes around perimenopause and menopause can leave skin drier, thinner and more sensitive than before. Some people notice more redness, or that products they’ve used for years suddenly feel too strong.
- Strengthen your barrier. Barrier Hydration Complex ($99), our “skin reset serum”, is a great support when skin feels tight or reactive.
- Choose a richer moisturiser if you need it. All Day Hydration (from $59) is our day cream.
- Keep vitamin A, but listen to your skin. If it feels irritated, use it less often rather than giving up.
In clinic, nano infusion is a gentler alternative to needling with little to no downtime, which suits many clients at this stage. LED is painless, has no downtime and red light helps calm inflammation. Micro gently exfoliates to reveal brighter skin, although you may be a little pink for a few hours.
Your 60s and beyond: gentle, nourishing care
Skin in your 60s and beyond often needs more nourishment and a gentler touch. The goal is comfort, glow and healthy-looking skin you feel good in. It’s never too late to start a routine, and your skin will thank you for it.
- Cleanse gently and avoid hot water, which can leave skin feeling dry.
- Layer hydration: a hydrating serum, then a moisturiser, then SPF 50+ in the morning.
- Use a night treatment. Skin Renewal Hero ($99) is our night treatment.
- Don’t forget the eye area. Hydra-Lift Eye Gel ($59) is made for this delicate skin.
Professional treatments are still very much worth it. Your therapist will tailor everything to your skin on the day, choosing calming, hydrating options like LED or a Hydro Jelly mask, or something more results-focused when your skin is ready.
